Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'

For me, everything reminds me of a song! Proud Mary keeps on Burnin', Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' on the river! Okay sorry, I digress...hey, did you know you have energy wheels? Cue the chakras!

“Chakra” is a Sanskrit word that means “wheel”. Chakras are believed to be spinning wheels that are energy points in your body. This may make more sense to you if you are familiar with the idea of “chi”, or life force, a type of energy always flowing through us. Chakras can be thought of as centers where that energy flows through and is given direction. The chakras

correspond to different organs and nerve centers in our body, as well as emotional states. It is thought that the more open and balanced our chakras are, the healthier they can help us to be. Just as a balanced, free spinning chakra promotes health and emotional wellbeing, an unbalanced or sluggish chakra can cause a depletion of wellness in the body and mind. An overactive chakra can cause too much energy to be directed at the particular qualities associated with that chakra.

You and I, both, have seven main chakras that are positioned along our spines, from the tailbone to the crown of your head. (There is some debate that there are actually nine chakras, but for now, we're gonna stick with the main seven.) The First/Root Chakra, is located at the base of your spine at your tailbone. The Second/Sacral Chakra is located about where your belly button is. The Third/Solar plexus Chakra can be found at the base of your rib cage, where your solar plexus is. The Fourth/Heart Chakra is where your heart is. The Fifth/Throat Chakra is associated with the throat. The Sixth/Third Eye Chakra is located between your eyes. Lastly, the Seventh/Crown Chakra is at the top of your head. Each chakra is also associated with a different color and element.

There are many ways to help your chakras stay open and balanced. There are yoga poses that correspond to each chakra and help to nourish them. Also breathing practices and meditation can help with the flow of energy and clarity of mind. Lastly, using aromatherapy can help to balance the chakras. Each chakra has essential oils that can help to nourish it. In subsequent blogs, I’ll be discussing the chakras and the oils that best correspond to each one.
